Plato, CGC, TDI

****Happy SIXTEENTH Birthday Plato: October 26, 2006!****

Born 26 October 1990

Adopted at age 8 weeks from the Newark, New Jersey Humane Society in 1990.

Plato, always the ultimate tennis ball dog, having fun at Liberty State Park in 1991.

Plato meets baby Ike in 2000.  Then Plato is pictured with Ike in 2006.

Plato is a smart, great mixed breed dog.  Plato is probably part Labrador Retriever, part Brittany, and the rest is a "Heinz 57" blend.  He grew up in the early 1990's having fun and making friends at Church Square Park in Hoboken, NJ (paving the way to the official dog park of today).  Plato has been there, done that:  long road trips, Central Park in Manhattan, Metropolitan Opera House's summer outdoor operas, and ten plus mile hikes with us.  He was our first dog to obtain his Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Therapy Dogs International (TDI) titles and was also our first working therapy dog (at a nursing home in Princeton, NJ beginning around 1997).  He has always been a masterful tennis ball dog and quick learner, and I believe he could have made an excellent service dog, as he is just that clever and trainable.  He has helped us welcome each dog that has entered our life since his arrival in 1990.

Advancing arthritis has slowed Plato down over the years but he still has a zest for life and love of food!  We continue to enjoy and treasure every day with him.

April 21, 2007:  We said goodbye to a very dear friend after more than 16 years together.  We miss you so very much, beloved boy, words could never express our pain at losing you but we try to focus on all the wonderful times we shared.

Plato outswims everyone in the pool.

Plato pictured at age three years, and also on his very first night home at age eight weeks.
